Window and door openings are your home’s most vulnerable points when it comes to moisture management.  Leaking around the frames can cause serious damage to the wall frame and internal linings so it’s important to get it right.  Thankfully the team at Wideline have come up with an award-winning innovation to remove the risk of leakage and create a nice, crisp finish to door and window surrounds.  We’ve provided some instruction on how to use the system for a sliding door.

Step 1 : Planning & Preparation

To begin installing the door, cut out the timber floor so that the sill of the door sits as low as possible.  This eliminates any step at the finished floor level.  The Halo Aquashield products are installed from the outside-in, so that the integrated fin fits hard up against the framed door opening.

Step 2 : Insert the Door

Level up the opening using a level and plastic packers, then insert the door.  Remember it’s a good idea to install a sill flashing before inserting the door.

Step 3 : Fixing the Door

Fix the door into position, making sure the reveal on the inside is set to suit your wall linings – most common is 10mm plaster.

Step 4 : Eliminating Gaps

Apply a continuous bead of polyurethane sealant around the fin of the door to fit the sarking to.  This also provides a 3rd water-tight layer of protection against leakage.

Step 5 : Fit the Sarking & Cladding

Fit the sarking and cut around the door openings.  Fit the cladding up to the door, and caulk as per manufacturer’s specifications.  There’s no need to box it out with an architrave as the Halo system has already done it for you.

Step 6 : Finishing Off

Paint the cladding to finish off and that’s it!  You’ve installed a weather-tight solution for light weight cladding.
