2023 Taubmans Colour Recap

It’s been a colourful year for us with plenty of paint projects on the go. As the year comes to an end we thought it would be a great time to look back on some of these projects and perhaps offer you some inspiration heading into the holiday period and beyond. We always find this time of year a great period to set a ‘goals’ list for the home. Not necessarily a ‘To Do List’ that needs to be completed before a certain time but something you can refer to throughout the rest of the year as you’re feeling motivated.

So let’s take a look at some of the projects we’ve completed this year…

In January we used the ColourSmith app to create some custom colours with our good friend and artist Alexandrah Farrah, inspired by colours from her kitchen tiles. You can watch the full makeover of this nook over on our YouTube channel.

In February we refreshed the courtyard in our Blue Lagoon Build Studio which had seen some weather during the past few years using Taubmans All Weather in ‘Aspen Snow’. Engineered with Nanoguard® Advanced Technology, it works as a protective shield to wash away dirt without compromising the quality of paint or damaging the finish. Perfect for the bench seat which we want looking crisp and fresh all year round.

In March we injected some colour and depth into the Blue Lagoon Studio bedroom. We love that the studio is bright and filled with light, but moving into the bedroom we wanted a more warm and comforting feel. Again, we used the ColourSmith app to create a custom colour inspired by the beautiful boucle bed, titled ‘Boucle Embrace’. The result? A space that feels like a big warm hug.

Revisiting a few of our favourite bedroom colours in April showed us that when it comes to colour selections in the bedroom we like the bright and fresh choices just as much as the darker, moody tones!

In May we carried on with work at my (Kara) Mum’s house by knocking out the dividing wall between the kitchen and living space, and installing a brand new kitchen. Wow, what a difference that has made! We’re yet to show you guys the completed space, but we did share the custom colour we created for Mum’s living space which we called ‘Blue Dune’ inspired by the coastal dunes. We’ll share more of this renovation in early 2024.

We shared images during June of a home for which we played a key role in selecting furniture and paint selections. The living spaces of this special family home are adorned in Taubmans ‘Pebble Bay Half’ which is a soft, warm white that works well with the stone features and timber styling.

In July we shared a sneak peak into the exterior selections for our current building project, Bay Builds. I moved exterior colour swatches around the jobsite and landed on Taubmans ‘Pebble Bay Quarter’. First things first though – the boys have prepared the base right with Taubmans 3-in-1 Prep which is suitable for interior and exterior use, dries fast and has excellent hiding, filling and sanding properties. Stay tuned for the full reveal of our Bay Builds exterior in 2024!

In August we restored this beautiful old recycled timber window. We cleaned, taped, prepped and painted with Taubmans Water Based Enamel in ‘Crisp White’. This old beauty has been brought back to life, and this kitchen – albeit a work in progress – feels fresher already!

September saw us complete a bedroom transformation with a fresh coat of paint and some new linen, reminding us of how satisfying a one day makeover really can be! We used Taubmans Endure ‘Shadowed’ in a low sheen finish, and a semi-gloss on skirting and architraves in the same colour. The encapsulating colour instantly gave this bedroom a serene and inviting ambience, and that’s exactly how you want your bedroom to feel!

Inspired by the impact a one day makeover could have, we decided it was time to add that extra layer of colour in the master bedroom of Blue Lagoon Build in October. We used Taubmans Endure ‘Safari Suit’ in a low sheen finish on the walls and it instantly added so much warmth and character. Teamed with a wardrobe cull and some fresh linen we feel so refreshed in this space. You can watch the full YouTube video of this transformation here and read more about the process over on our Journal.

In November we’re celebrating the Taubmans 2024 Colour Forecast ‘Equilibrium’ giving my front door a little colour refresh. The Colour Forecast has four distinct palettes and I chose the colour ‘Palm Frond’ from the ‘Grounded’ collection. This particular collection is all about connecting the inside and out by bringing elements of the natural world into our space. It’s a subtle change but the colour is the perfect connection between the palm trees outside and our coastal colour palette inside. It’s amazing how a subtle colour change can bring such a sense of joy!

I have a little Christmas DIY planned for December, and heading into the new year I’m so excited to begin sharing more of our Blue Bay project, from the build progress through to the interior finishes and styling.
