Long Jetty Renovation Episode 3 – Locked Up

We’re out of the ground, wall frames are up and the roof frame is on! The paper plans are becoming a reality – and boy is she a big one! With the roof frame complete, the boys begin framing and installing our Velux windows. The main highlight I’m excited about is the bank of five Velux going over the kitchen island bench.  The ceiling will vault up this space, creating an architectural feature out of the light shaft.

The kitchen is the hub of the home, so it’s going to be an amazing feature to have all that natural light over this space. While we’re on the subject of natural light – it was a HUGE milestone to have all our Wideline windows delivered. We have a mix of casement windows, louvres, commercial grade sliding windows and sliding doors. If you’ve followed us from the beginning, you’ll know we’re big fans of a seamless floor from the indoors to the outdoors so we’ve installed the most amazing stacker sliding doors from the Wideline Paragon Range. Above this are highlight windows, and the two end highlights are remote opening which will be great to help with cross-ventilation.

One of the biggest milestones to date will be the day the COLORBOND® roof is installed. Not only are we so excited to see more of the exterior come together visually, but we’ll be watertight! Early on when we put together the mood board for Long Jetty Reno we knew we wanted to stick to a white, coastal colour scheme. A COLORBOND® roof has been the first choice with all our renovations so far due to its tried and tested ability to withstand the elements. COLORBOND® Surfmist was our colour of choice, but the really exciting new is… We’re one of the first in Australia to have the new  COLORBOND® Matt finish which offers a softer, more refined look.

The day the roof was installed, the site was buzzing.  Literally weeks and weeks of preparation has lead to this point – the renovation begins to resemble a home. We even had the COLORBOND® discovery van on site. It was all hands on deck with the team from ARC on site to lay and install the sheets. First things first, the boys lay the insulation: we’ve used Bradford’s Anticon, specifically designed for temperature and noise control in homes with a metal roof.

A huge day and the result has been worth all the hard work leading up to this point. After reaching such a huge milestone, no time is wasted moving on to the next job – as there’s a very long list before we can reveal a finished home.

We made the most of Kyal’s mum and stepdad, Garry, being up from interstate for a few days over a weekend. Whilst Ziya and Nan spend some quality time, Garry (a landscaper) helps Kyal and I get started on the front stone feature, using limestone from Cinajus. This took SO much longer than I had anticipated!  You basically have to make up the pattern on a table, and then transfer that pattern to the wall.

Next on the list is the external wall cladding – and this is the final piece of the puzzle for us to officially say we’re LOCKED UP!  We’ve chosen Scyon LINEA 150mm weatherboard. I absolutely love this board as its gorgeous deep shadowiness creates a quality look. Kyal’s favourite feature of these boards is the corner mitre feature. It’s all coming together, and with the Scyon boards on I can begin selecting paint colours.

With some patience from our painter (and our little man Ziya), and 8 sample pots later – I’ve locked in my exterior colour scheme. The weatherboards will be Taubmans ‘Barely Beige’ and our trims will be Taubman’s ‘Brilliant White’. Can’t wait to share more of the exterior coming together, but for now we’re moving on inside for the fitout! We have our plumber and electrician coming, we’re insulating, gyprocking and beginning to put finished rooms together – so stay tuned!
